Avery County Info (blueridgehighlander.com) - ‘Linville Gorge and Falls, Linville Caverns, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain, Pisgah National Forest, the Elk and Watauga Rivers along with numerous other waterways throughout the county set the pace and draw the visitors to this “High Country” region.’
Pisgah National Forest - ‘The Grandfather Ranger District receives its' name from Grandfather Mountain, one of the dominant peaks of the area. Ironically, most of Grandfather Mountain is not in the Grandfather Ranger District. The district lies southeast of the Blue Ridge Parkway, between Asheville and Blowing Rock.’

A colorful and varied display of wildflowers decorates the trails in the spring. Red and golden leaves in fall beautifully contrast with the soothing green of hemlocks.’
